Mr. Karl Smithson

Executive Director

With over 30 years experience in the resources sector in Africa, Karl has held senior management positions at De Beers, SouthernEra Resources, Mano River Resources, and Stellar Diamonds. Karl possesses an in-depth knowledge of the exploration, evaluation, and production of diamond and other mineral resources. Throughout Karl’s career, he has established strong government and local stakeholder relationships in numerous African countries and has successfully secured a number of joint venture agreements with both major and junior resource companies.

Karl holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology (Honours) from Kingston University, London, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Cape Town.

Mr. Chris Burton

Non-Executive Director

Chris is a chartered accountant and registered company auditor with over 22 years of financial sector experience from roles in both public practice and the private sector. He is a former partner of the accounting firm BDO where he spent eight years in audit and assurance services focusing on ASX-listed companies in a wide range of industries including exploration and mining companies.

Chris currently provides corporate, financial and compliance services to ASX listed and private clients to strengthen their reporting, risk, and governance practices. He is a facilitator with the Institute of Company Directors in Australia (AICD) where he delivers the finance modules for the company directors course.

Mr. Jack Spencer-Cotton

Non-Executive Director

Jack has over 27 years of experience in the field of engineering. he has held a range of senior engineering roles in international manufacturing companies, as well as established his own business in engineering and consulting. He has previously held senior engineering roles at ERG Group Ltd, Sanmina-SCI Corporations, and SRX Global. He is presently a capital projects engineer at Pfizer Perth and a non-executive director of an ASX-listed company.

Alistair Croll

Non-Executive Director

Alistair is a mining engineer with over 35 years’ experience in the industry. Alistair worked for De Beers and Anglo American in Southern Africa for over 20 years before moving to Australia in 2005 where he has held chief operations officer roles for Consolidated Minerals Australia, St Barbara Limited (ASX: SBM) and Mawson West Limited (TSX listed at the time), as well as serving as chief executive officer for Kimberley Diamond Company which was owned by London listed Gem Diamonds Ltd (LSE: GEMD) and Blina Minerals (ASX listed at that time).

Alistair has worked in a number of commodities including diamonds, gold, platinum, manganese, chrome, nickel and copper across sub-Saharan Africa, West Africa, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Over the past 5 years, Alistair has assisted in consulting roles for a number of mid-tier mining companies and also conducts safety leadership coaching for a large company in the construction sector.

Mr. Rowan Carr

Mineral Resource Manager

A highly experienced diamond exploration and mining operations specialist, Rowan has a proven track record in successfully and safely operating across eight African countries, many regions of which are considered high-risk zones. Rowan has over 30 years of experience in diamond operations from grassroots exploration to mining operations.

Rowan holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours), Masters of Mineral Exploration, and is a Chartered Geologist. He has a wide network throughout the global diamond industry and is a Fellow of the Geological Society, London.

Charl Barnard

General Manager Tongo Mine

Charl is a highly experienced business leader and manager with a consistent track record of successful project delivery over 25 years in eastern Europe, Central Asia, West, East and Southern Africa.

In the past 15 years, Charl has held senior roles as part of the group executive committee for Petra Diamonds and has served as in-Country and General Manager on both large and small open cast and underground diamond mines in Sierra Leone, Tanzania and South Africa. In particular, Charl has a strong track record of transitioning operations from the capital investment stage to cash generative and production focused stages.

Charl has also served roles as Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment with a strong focus on ESG management and reporting, and with a proven record of risk management successfully improving safety statistics on every operation he has managed.
